Richmond Hill Christian Community Church Audio Upgrades

Challenge

Cosmo Pro was approached with a project that can be overwhelming for many institutions – this is where the Richmond Hill Christian Community Church (RHCCC) found themselves. The church needed to update their entire sound system and infrastructure while keeping their existing main speakers, a few of which needed repairs. With forward-thinking they engaged Cosmo Pro to design and implement the right solutions for them.

The existing components were grade-A when installed over a decade ago by a respected company, but in the last several years, amplifiers and DSPs were failing at an unacceptable rate while parts and support were becoming hard to come by and costly. Cosmo Pro was asked to replace the church’s aging system with a modern design, build a Dante network, integrate numerous existing parts within the new design, and create a few custom solutions to integrate with custom-made products like translator stations.

Solution

Cosmo Pro first reached out to Paolo Bizzaro from SFM’s Technical Applications Group (QSC Q-SYS DSP and Amplifiers) who was paramount from the early design stages, and Arthur Skudra of Sightsound Consulting for expert DSP programming and system commissioning.

The solution included Allen & Heath’s flagship dLive S7000 console with DM48 MixRack to replace an aging Yamaha PM5D console, QSC’s Q-SYS Core 510i DSP with various FLEX modules and cards, a 21” high stack of Q-SYS CX-QN Series amplifiers that replaced two whole tall racks of aging amps, and implementation of a new Dante network to replace the existing CobraNet infrastructure.

Result

The system was installed during Ontario’s COVID-19 restrictions, which proved to be a benefit as Cosmo Pro could work safely and effectively within a small team without interrupting the church’s services. Cosmo Pro was able to greatly improve system sound quality, as well as headroom and performance by not only using modern tools, but also removing miles of analog cable from their signal chain – allowing signals to stay within the digital domain from the desk to the amp – as promised, on time, and on budget.

Modern DSPs and amplifiers with expert-level tuning, gave new life to Richmond Hill Christian Community Church’s existing speaker system for another decade or more with the solutions Cosmo Pro designed and implemented.
