Review: "Power Up" by AC/DC

Cosmo Music - Elliott's Record Reviews

A High Powered Tribute

One of the great bands of rock 'n' roll returns with a salute to good old fashioned heavy hitting, high octane riffs. With the return of Brian Johnson, Phil Rudd, and Cliff Williams, and being the first album since Malcolm Young's death, it's a nostalgic return and a fitting tribute to all that's good in rock.

Hi everyone, it's Elliott again and I'm back again with another review. Today I'm going to be stepping off the beaten path a little and reviewing another type of product that we carry here in the print music department: a vinyl record.

AC/DC is one of the most iconic bands in rock and roll history and their 17th studio album, "Power Up", is a continuation of their high voltage celebration of life based on turbocharged blues and high octane rock. Released on November 13, 2020, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200 chart in the United States, and also spent four weeks at the top of Australia's ARIA charts worldwide. It was the sixth best-selling album of 2020, selling 1.37 million copies.

This is the band's first album since the death of co-founder and rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, and according to his brother, Angus, also serves as a tribute to him. It features the return of vocalist Brian Johnson, drummer Phil Rudd, and bassist Cliff Williams, all of whom left the band during the period of the "Rock or Bust" tour in 2014. Malcolm's nephew Stevie serves up on rhythm guitar. The album features 12 tracks in total with hits like "System's Down", "Shot in the Dark", and "Demon Fire", with electrifying licks, catchy riffs, driving rhythms, all tied together with the voice of Brian Johnson.

AC/DC places their trademark signature sound all over the record, so if it's been a while since you've heard some new AC/DC and still have hits like "Thunderstruck", "Back In Black", and "Highway to Hell" playing on your turntable, definitely check out their latest record. Thanks for watching, and I'll see you in the next video.
