Definitions

Consignment is the act of consigning, which is placing goods in the hand of another, but retaining ownership until the goods are sold. In the context of sale it is understood that the consignee (the party to which goods are sent or the consignment seller) pays the consignor (the party by which the goods are consigned or the person with items to sell) only after the sale, from its proceeds.

Trade-ins are merchandise accepted as partial payment for a new purchase.

Purchases are merchandise accepted in return for cash, cheque or credit on account.
