RECORD/REASON 4.0
Record/Reason 4.0

Hi all,
I’ve decided to talk a little bit about Reason/Record from Propellerhead software. Reason is a sequencer program that’s midi based with the ability to use effects, synths, drum kits and sampling. Record is somewhat a stand-alone/add on to Reason that enables you to record audio and gives you access to a new mixer view that’s based off the SSL console series, they’ve also teamed up with Line 6 to add guitar and bass amp modeling. When I first used Reason in high school, I didn’t touch anything beyond the preset sounds, drum kits and effects - it was awesome! Now that I’ve taken the time to get into sampling and synthesis I’m now able to create my own sounds from just practice and experimentation. Reason let me do this freely but at the same time works the same way as if I had all the gear physically in real life. See with Reason you actually have to wire all the “Virtual” units just as you would in a real life setting, this helps you to understand signal flow and how things like reverb, EQ and mixers work.
Our biggest complaint was the lack of being able to record audio, hence Record. Now they took it a step further and gave us the ability to time stretch audio without affecting pitch as well, cool beans, but it should be noted that Reason/Record does not support VSTs. That said, it is EXTREMELY CPU efficient, you can have so much going on without your computer bogging down easily. I just really like this program, it is my main sequencer for creating sounds and starting any ideas.
Cheers!
-Jake
