Spring is here and with it comes the arrival of Bridges, the recently revised classical guitar series from the Royal Conservatory of Music. From an aesthetic point of view the new series looks great, with attractive covers for each level, clear and large printing, and better spacing between staves. Inside the books you’ll find that new titles have been introduced (including “The Frog Galliard” by John Dowland and “Cavatina” from The Deer Hunter in level 8). You’ll also notice that contemporary Cuban guitarist and composer Leo Brouwer has been well represented in both the repertoire and studies from grade 6 [...] Read more

Did you check out the 2011 Grammy’s? What a show! The performances alone were worth finding the T.V channel on February 13th. At 67 Mick Jagger showed us he’s still as spry as a 20 year old on stage and Rihanna, Usher and Canuck Justin Bieber didn’t disappoint their millions of fans either.
At Cosmo Music we love the Grammy’s too and you can find the sheet music for your favourite winners and nominees in our Print Department from Miranda Lambert, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga to Cee Lo Green, Lady Antebellum, Sade and Bruno Mars. For what’s new and hip [...] Read more

Daily sight reading is an excellent routine to get into as we grow as classical guitarists. It’s also a great way to add variety and excitement to our practice sessions as we explore new sounds and phrases on the instrument.
Alfred Publishing has a series of books entitled Sight Reading for the Classical Guitar which we carry and that I highly recommend. There are two books in the series – Levels 1 to 3 and 4 to 5. Each book contains a wealth of information and exercises that will improve your ability to read and interpret new material, paying proper attention [...] Read more

When all you really need are the chords and lyrics then you should check out Hal Leonard’s Guitar Chord Songbook series. O.k. you do get the first 2 bars of melody on the treble clef staff so you remember how the song goes but other than that it’s just the chords and lyrics from your favorite songs and artists. The idea is that this handy little book will fit in your back pocket but you’re going to need an awful lot of pockets because there over 50 collections to choose from including such artists as Elvis Presley, Dire Straits, Johnny [...] Read more

Classical guitarists! Are you new to the instrument? Are you looking for acomprehensive source of useful practice and performance advice? Learning the Classic Guitar by Aaron Shearer is one of the most widely acclaimed series for approaching the study of the classical guitar. This three-volume collection, in print since 1990, has been described as ground-breaking in its clear and systematic explanation of the fundamental principles of guitar playing. In writing this book Aaron Shearer believed that how and what students practice is as important as how much they practice, information should only be given when it is immediately useful, one [...] Read more

If so, Cosmo Music has the perfect book for you – Beatles for Classical Guitar – arranged by Larry Beekman. Selections include Come Together, Here Comes the Sun, In My Life, The Long and Winding Road, Michelle, Penny Lane and Yesterday, with thirty songs in total. The beauty of the book is found not only in its outstanding song selection but also in its clear, easy to read printing with no tab and absolutely no page turns. I’ve got a copy myself and I love it.
