  • Thank you Steinberg for Cubase 6!

Posted on March 30, 2011 by John Ebata

I loaded up the new Steinberg Cubase 6 software into a 3 year old Macbook Pro. Already having Logic 9 software loaded in with many VST and AU plug-ins resident on the hard drive ( Omnisphere, Ethno, Halion Symphonic etc.), these were all immediately available to play and sequence. No manual reading, little effort, only the usual wait times to boot up then immediately playable. Just waiting to find the time to test tempo mapping of audio tracks automatically, pitch correction a’ la Melodyne built-in and record my next CD project.
Watching Steinberg guru Greg Ondo present this software really [...]  Read more

  • One Parent's Story of Frustration...

Posted on March 30, 2011 by John Ebata

A parent’s frustration story on finding a good piano teacher and having the right instrument…
“I enrolled my 5 year old with a young, local neighbourhood teacher for piano lessons. Not knowing what my daughter needed to practice, this teacher said just get a small Casio or Yamaha keyboard. After 10 months and over $1000 of lessons, my daughter was still just playing with the buttons and quirky sounds on the keyboard and not seeming to play the music from the books that the teacher sold me. In asking around, a friend said that I should have a real piano not [...]  Read more

  • Bridges – The Revised RCM Guitar Series

Posted on March 30, 2011 by Elliott Chung

Spring is here and with it comes the arrival of Bridges, the recently revised classical guitar series from the Royal Conservatory of Music. From an aesthetic point of view the new series looks great, with attractive covers for each level, clear and large printing, and better spacing between staves. Inside the books you’ll find that new titles have been introduced (including “The Frog Galliard” by John Dowland and “Cavatina” from The Deer Hunter in level 8). You’ll also notice that contemporary Cuban guitarist and composer Leo Brouwer has been well represented in both the repertoire and studies from grade 6 [...]  Read more

I find that the T.C. Electronic Hall of Fame pedal is the smoothest, richest sounding reverb pedal on the market with the most versatility yet.  Hall Of Fame Reverb gives you 10 reverb types. The reverbs comprise of Spring, Hall, Plate, Room, Church and Ambience; from a subtle reverb to a full blown cathedral. • NEW DAW Software Release

Posted on March 22, 2011 by James Peck

    Pro Tools 9
Version 9 of Pro Tools brings us some sought-after improvements to the already Industry-standard DAW software. LE and M-Powered versions are being phased out and replaced by 'Pro Tools 9' and 'Pro Tools 9 HD'.
    Some major improvements include:
~ Compatibility with ANY audio interface (not just Avid/Digidesign) - a major gripe with previous versions was the requirement of a digidesign or m-audio interface to operate
~ Multi-track Beat Detective (quantize drum track audio!) - no more submixes! quantize your multi-track drum parts in a flash!
~ Automatic Delay Compensation - definitely missing from previous versions. with [...]  Read more

  • Kurzweil PC3 Series at Cosmo Music

Posted on March 21, 2011 by Fred Nicholson

The new Kurzweil PC3 LE and PC3K series has been a solid product line for us at Cosmo! We really like the sound, features and great price point that the current lineup has to offer.
With the latest PC3 series I feel Kurzweil has done a great job at combining modern features while capturing the great Kurzweil pure sound. Even better that they now have very competitive price points compared to the Japanese competition! The main difference between the very affordable PC3 LE series and the PC3 series is that the PC3 has 128 voice polyphony vs the PC3 LE series [...]  Read more

There have been many inquiries after this horn so if you're interested, give us a shout!
    In Yamaha's words:

The word Xeno means "foreign," or "from the outside." As its name implies, the Xeno project involved internationally acclaimed foreign artists, especially including American and British born trumpet players and technicians to create and test countless prototypes. Artists in [...]  Read more
