  • Zelda is Finally Here!

Posted on January 5, 2012 by Cristina D'Alessandro

Koji Kondo, the composer that brought you the Super Mario Bros. music, also created music for another extremely popular 1980’s Nintendo game - The Legend of Zelda. Over the years piano aficionados have attempted to learn these great themes by ear because no sheet music was officially published. With so many Zelda games; A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess among them, there are dozens of songs that intermediate-advanced pianists would absolutely love to play. Well, the wait is over, after great success with their recent publication of the piano music of Super Mario Bros., Alfred [...]  Read more

  • Yamaha Avant Grand Series

Posted on November 29, 2011 by Alex Phung

The Yamaha Avant Grand N3 is often mistaken for a real baby grand. Until you really take a closer look you will then realize this amazing sound is actually coming from a digital piano. Yamaha has really made a one of kind instrument in the music industry with remarkable results. When you play your first chord on the N3 you feel the true authenticity of its Yamaha Concert C3 action. If you play hard enough, the N3 will vibrate just as any real grand piano would.
Many of today’s top musicians have praised the Avant Grand N3 to be their choice [...]  Read more

  • The New CLP430 Clavinova Digital Piano - Where did all the Control Buttons Go?

Posted on July 12, 2011 by John Ebata

On first glance of the new CLP430, the question was how do I change the sounds. The newest feature of all of the new CLP400 series is one of the most asked for features by piano teachers to hide the buttons so it does not distract the student’s practicing and now it is here with “Panel Reveal Key Cover.”
The sliding key cover now has a rest position partway to hide all the signs of technology inside adding to the more traditional look of the CLP400 series. Under the hood there is a new improved piano sound, a three sensor 88 [...]  Read more

  • One Parent's Story of Frustration...

Posted on March 30, 2011 by John Ebata

A parent’s frustration story on finding a good piano teacher and having the right instrument…
“I enrolled my 5 year old with a young, local neighbourhood teacher for piano lessons. Not knowing what my daughter needed to practice, this teacher said just get a small Casio or Yamaha keyboard. After 10 months and over $1000 of lessons, my daughter was still just playing with the buttons and quirky sounds on the keyboard and not seeming to play the music from the books that the teacher sold me. In asking around, a friend said that I should have a real piano not [...]  Read more

  • Will a Digital Piano Suffice for my Little Pianist?

Posted on February 22, 2011 by Cosmo Music

Question - 'I currently have my children using a digital piano. It has 88 notes and has what they call weighted keys. How long can I use this? My teacher is saying I should get an acoustic piano.'
Answer - Your question is a very common question from parents with children learning to play piano. Since every child’s practice amount and habits are different, every child’s piano playing progress moves at different rates. On average most piano teachers recommend after about one year the need for a real acoustic piano. The best piano teachers say you really need an acoustic [...]  Read more

  • Digital Pianos vs Acoustic Pianos

Posted on February 8, 2011 by Cosmo Music

Should I buy a digital or acoustic piano?
This is the number one question asked by parents starting their children in lessons. Cosmo Music is fortunate to be one of the few stores selling many brands of both digital and acoustic pianos so here is the unbiased answer.
The better piano teachers all recommend that if you take piano lessons on a real acoustic piano then your everyday practice is best on a real acoustic piano. The price range of digitals overlaps many acoustic pianos. The best way to tell the difference is to listen to similar priced instruments, a digital piano [...]  Read more

  • Digital and Acoustic Piano Warranties

Posted on February 8, 2011 by Cosmo Music

Why are there different warranty lengths on digital pianos? Some are only a year and some are 5 years.
Warranty comparison within one brand name is a good reflection of the level of quality the manufacturer has put into the instrument and the products expected life cycle. For instance Yamaha sells many 88-note weighted digital piano models with some of the best warranties in the music industry. Entry-priced models have a two year warranty while premium priced models have a 5 year warranty. The less expensive products contain more plastic and less wood. Casing structure of the lesser models are meant [...]  Read more
