Ryan's Pick of the Week: The Custom Shop's ’52 Telecaster
Posted on February 8, 2011 by Ryan Casselman
The Fender Custom Shop has done it again…
The Telecaster, one of the earliest solid body electric guitars, has maintained popularity in part because of it’s hotrodability. For years it has been a platform for anything from a simple pick-up change to a more drastic Jeff Beck style body contour.
As if to pay homage to this legacy, The Custom Shop created a ’52 Tele with a premium lightweight Ash body, a maple neck with a mid-50’s soft V neck profile, modern Tele wiring, and a Custom Shop Nocaster pickup in the bridge. But what really makes this guitar happening is the [...] Read more

The Art of Rasgueado
Posted on January 31, 2011 by Elliott Chung
Classical guitarists, have you ever wanted to introduce rasgueado’s into your playing? The Art of Rasgueado by Ioannis Anastassakis is a recent addition to our store collection and contains a comprehensive analysis of this special technique for both the classical and flamenco guitar. The author goes to great lengths to describe how the rasgueado, or finger strum, can be performed using different finger combinations. In addition, he also includes a chapter on the golpe technique, which involves hitting different parts of the right hand on the body of the guitar to produce a percussive sound. This is the first book [...] Read more

My Trip to NAMM 2011
Posted on January 24, 2011 by Ryan Casselman
This was my first trip to NAMM and I don’t know where to begin! It was an amazing experience, and the sheer size and spectacle of the event was staggering. I saw so much new product, met with so many manufacturers, and literally ran into so many of my personal heroes. There were new items that we’ve already begun to see, like Fender’s new Mustang III, IV, and V amplifiers, and items like Yamaha’s A-Series acoustic guitars that we won’t be seeing until later in the year. There are also going to be some brand new products for us that [...] Read more

Matt's Pick of the Week: Fender Mustang III Amps
Posted on January 24, 2011 by Matt Metcalf
This is one of the best modeling combo amps I have ever tried. With 100 built in presets, it makes it easy to find the right sound for the right song. It's perfect for practising at home or out playing with people. This amp has 100 watts pushing through a 12 inch speaker, so it's small but powerful. Check out the Fender Mustang III today at Cosmo music, and leave with a great new amplifier!

The Method in Black has Done it Again!
Posted on January 14, 2011 by Doug Armstrong
Hal Leonard has just introduced the newest addition to its impressive fleet of Guitar Methods with the unmistakable black cover – Guitar Chord, Scale and Arpeggio Finder (00697410). I can’t count how many time I’ve been asked for a good guitar scale book or a good guitar chord book. Well, now there’s a great 2-in-1 option and because many guitarists want to learn how play over chords and eventually learn to improvise their solos, Hal Leonard has included arpeggios too. Probably most useful are the 3 different voicings the publisher has provided for each chord type. Containing over 1,100 chords [...] Read more
