<![CDATA[Cosmo Music Presents CADENCE on Wed. Oct 22 at 7 PM]]> Tue, 09 Sep 2014 15:41:23 +0000 "Instruments are for Surgeons"

The stage lights fall, the crowd goes quiet, and four harmonious voices rise up and fill the air. The melodies unfurl into something both familiar and fresh. What comes next may be a classic song by Joni Mitchell or Louis Prima. It may be an old bebop standard or cheeky arrangement of a 1980s hit. But these are arrangements like you’ve never heard them before — containing all the richness of a full band, but performed using just four voices.

This is CADENCE, Canada’s premiere vocal group. Based in Toronto, this a cappella ensemble has been wowing audiences across the country and around the world for nearly 15 years. The group’s four critically acclaimed studio albums, Cool Yule (2011), Speak Easy (2010), Twenty for One (2005), and Frost Free (2000) have won or been nominated for numerous awards, including three nods from the JUNO Awards and 10 from CARA, the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards.

Cadence’s live shows are always a hit. They feature a hypnotic blend of complex harmonies, intricate arrangements, vocal dexterity, and just plain fun. On-stage antics and audience participation are par for the course at any Cadence show, but so too is a mesmerizing display of musical genius. What these boys can do with their voices needs to be heard to be believed.

Check out this vocal phenomenon for yourself. One listen and you will agree; instruments are for surgeons!

<![CDATA[Cosmo Music Presents JACOB MOON on Thurs. Sept 25 at 7 PM]]> Wed, 27 Aug 2014 13:43:08 +0000 "JACOB MOON is an exceedingly watchable performer... seems completely at home on stage." Ron Sexsmith

Every artist starts out with heroes. But not every artist gets asked by their heroes to join them, as artists, on their stage. It's a compliment that JACOB MOON keeps getting from the musicians who have inspired him since he started as a singer-songwriter out in Hamilton, Ontario. Artists like Rush, Marillion and Gordon Lightfoot have taken a shine to Moon's renditions of their songs and have lavished him praise and a spotlight that has gained him international attention. It is these inventive covers that draws the fans in, but it's Moon's original material and his compelling live show that make them pull up a chair.

Danny Miranda (bassist for Queen) concurs "Tremendous command of the instrument...amazing voice. I can honestly say that I am overwhelmed by his music".

JACOB MOON is known for his giftedness as a singer, songwriter of award-winning pop and folk songs. He is also a master of the art of ‘live looping’, a performance style where he records what he’s playing in real time and layers sound on sound to make one guitar sound like an orchestra.

Join us for an unforgettable evening with an equally unforgettable talent!

<![CDATA[Toronto North Ukulele Jam SPECIAL EDITION Featuring Manitoba Hal (Mon. Aug 11th, 7 - 9 PM)]]> Tue, 05 Aug 2014 11:41:41 +0000 Manitoba Hal is the ukulele world's foremost bluesman. He's an accomplished guitarist and songwriter, but he is best known for his ukulele chops. Hal proves that the uke can be small, but mighty as he pulls out powerful blues riffs and melodies.

Hal uses a looping technology to produce a one-man-band experience, adding subtle but important background beats to his extraordinary ukulele strumming and riffing. Many wouldn’t associate the ukulele as a blues instrument, but Hal takes out all the hula, leaving only room for deep blues to prevail.

Join Manitoba Hal for his first appearance at Cosmo Music's Toronto North Ukulele Jam! You won't want to miss this!
