  • Music from the Grammy's at Cosmo Music

Posted on February 22, 2011 by Doug Armstrong

Did you check out the 2011 Grammy’s? What a show! The performances alone were worth finding the T.V channel on February 13th. At 67 Mick Jagger showed us he’s still as spry as a 20 year old on stage and Rihanna, Usher and Canuck Justin Bieber didn’t disappoint their millions of fans either.
At Cosmo Music we love the Grammy’s too and you can find the sheet music for your favourite winners and nominees in our Print Department from Miranda Lambert, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga to Cee Lo Green, Lady Antebellum, Sade and Bruno Mars. For what’s new and hip [...]  Read more

  • The Method in Black has Done it Again!

Posted on January 14, 2011 by Doug Armstrong

Hal Leonard has just introduced the newest addition to its impressive fleet of Guitar Methods with the unmistakable black cover – Guitar Chord, Scale and Arpeggio Finder (00697410). I can’t count how many time I’ve been asked for a good guitar scale book or a good guitar chord book. Well, now there’s a great 2-in-1 option and because many guitarists want to learn how play over chords and eventually learn to improvise their solos, Hal Leonard has included arpeggios too. Probably most useful are the 3 different voicings the publisher has provided for each chord type. Containing over 1,100 chords [...]  Read more

  • Hal Leonard’s Guitar Chord Songbook

Posted on May 13, 2010 by Doug Armstrong

When all you really need are the chords and lyrics then you should check out Hal Leonard’s Guitar Chord Songbook series. O.k. you do get the first 2 bars of melody on the treble clef staff so you remember how the song goes but other than that it’s just the chords and lyrics from your favorite songs and artists. The idea is that this handy little book will fit in your back pocket but you’re going to need an awful lot of pockets because there over 50 collections to choose from including such artists as Elvis Presley, Dire Straits, Johnny [...]  Read more

  • Doug's Jazz Blog

Posted on February 19, 2010 by Doug Armstrong

As a jazz musician it is important to regularly work on developing your own sound and style. You also need to expand your repertoire and learn new tunes. There often isn't enough time in a practice session to do all 3.
I recommend Hal Leonard's Jazz Play Along series. With over 100 volumes there's something for every aspiring jazz musician whether you play a treble or bass clef instrument. Each book comes with an accompanying CD with a fabulous rhythm section as well as solid trumpet and saxophone players who demonstrate the melodies for you.
The series features jazz greats such as [...]  Read more
