Man…. Recording sure has changed in the last five years or so!
In the “old days” it was an expensive and somewhat gruelling adventure involving rooms with big speakers, floating floors and consoles as long as the eye could see. These usually operated by “vampires with a Studio Tan” (Engineers rarely see daylight!)… in my past life I was a vampire with a thirst for expensive microphones and 2” tape J
“Home Studios” were usually less than stellar spaces…. With gear that had been cobbled together from begging, borrowing and stealing, with the closet filling in for a vocal booth as long [...] Read more

The Ukulele Strikes Back
Posted on February 16, 2012 by Andrew Hobbs
As this is my initial Cosmo blog post, let me first introduce myself. My name is Andrew James Hobbs, and I am a member of the guitar department at Cosmo Music. I could be described as a “born again” Cosmonaut, as I took a 2 year sabbatical from my previous tenure here in the guitar department. Why did I come back you ask? Was it the glory? The fame? The money? No, the real catalyst for my return was the popular resurgence of the diminutive four stringed wonder…The Ukulele.
Now, let’s get down to business. Why are these small instruments gaining [...] Read more

Not your Average Mic: Blue Spark
Posted on February 8, 2012 by Tyler Davis
Here at Cosmo we see and hear mics from nearly every professional manufacturer, which means we have a solid perspective when it comes to picking the best mic for the application.
We love sharing this info with our customers to help them make the right decision the first time, and for those seeking a versatile vocal/instrument mic for recording purposes, the Blue Spark is a simple choice. With boutique styling at a very non-boutique price, it has no trouble drawing attention with its unique aesthetic appeal, but the sound is what really has us excited.
When first testing this microphone, we were [...] Read more

Drum Sticks Often Get Over Looked
Posted on February 8, 2012 by Kyron Newbury
A lot of drummers find their favorite stick and well...stick to them (I'm here all week try the veal). Working in a drum shop I have the privilege to play many different types of sticks. When I first started, I played only Vic Firth 7A's, and they did the job fine. But when I started exploring the different sticks, I found many sounds and feels from sticks that change how I play.
We have some exciting new sticks in the Drummers Den.

Fender Custom Shop Buddy Holly Tribute Stratocaster on its way!
Posted on February 7, 2012 by Cosmo Music
To this day, it is hard to look at a Fender Stratocaster guitar and not think of Buddy Holly. His musical legacy remains unparalleled, but his impact and contribution to launching the Stratocaster will always remain part of Fenders history.
He burst onto the music scene with a 1955 Stratocaster and wrote most of his earliest hits on that guitar. Then, it was stolen. He bought another 1955 Stratocaster. It too was stolen. That original guitar has now been painstakingly reproduced using the original materials, pickups, woods, paint scheme, along with all the nicks and dings from Buddy’s original, and [...] Read more
