A couple of weeks ago we hosted the Martin String challenge here in the guitar department. Customers were invited to play 3 identical acoustic guitars (as identical as acoustics can be…) with 3 types of strings. This was Martin’s way of promoting their latest offering, the Lifespan SP strings.
For the Lifespan SP’s, Martin uses Cleartone technology to treat the string, rather than applying a thick coating. The result is a long lasting string with the feel and sound of a traditional guitar string.
These strings have actually been out for a while, and I’ve had a set on my guitar for a little over a month. That’s not really that long by acoustic guitar standards, but on my guitar it means the set has been through gigs, rehearsals, and a weekly open mic night were strangers use my guitar after eating pub food. I’m happy to report that they are still going strong, and I’ll certainly use them again.
Of course the only way to know if you like a set of strings is to try them out, so come in a grab a set for yourself, and maybe a set to stuff the stocking of the guitar player in your life.
