Markham Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit, charitable organization that serves as a symbolic representation of the cultural and artistic life of Markham and the northern communities. It seeks to promote community interest and appreciation in the performing arts. The orchestra consists of the best players including professional, university and post-graduate musicians around the region and GTA. The MSO will also conduct outreach programmes within the local schools.
Musicians
Positions available (PAY-PER SERVICE positions):
- Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass.
- Wind & Brass: Oboe, Flute, Clarinet, Bassoon, English Horn, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba.
- Percussion: Timpani, Percussion & Keyboard.
We are always looking for accomplished players in all positions for the MSO. Concertmaster, Principal positions and Front Desks will be held by professional players.
Other positions available will serve to constitute an outreach programme filled by our local outstanding & talented young musicians who are genuinely and seriously seeking affiliation with a professional orchestra to enhance their performance experiences & to continue their training for auditions in their future professional careers.

Volunteering Opportunities
We invite volunteers who love music and who would like to share our vision in rebuilding the orchestra to bring beautiful music to everyone in the communities.
Board of Directors/Executive Staff
Positions are open to members of the community who are dedicated and possess insights in helping to promote the MSO.
- Responsibilities: Fundraising-seek sponsors to host concerts, solicit contributions from corporate, small businesses and individuals; organizing special fundraising events.
- Hours: ongoing but flexible towards completion of goals when preparing for concerts.
Volunteers
- Promotional: assist in advertising through distribution of flyers, brochures, community newspapers and media; website promotion.
- Concerts: organizing reception, refreshments, ushering, liaison with patrons, ticket sales.
- Administrative: database management, graphics/programme production, mailing.
- Educational programmes: liaison with local schools to organize outreach programmes with MSO members.
- Hours: ongoing but flexible towards completion of tasks at hand.
