I have just unpacked and displayed our brand new NS6 and all I can say is WOW. I will be going over the key things I noticed as soon as I tried it out.
Quality
The first thing I noticed when I took this out of the box was that the quality was outstanding. The buttons are super nice(comparable to club standard Pioneer CDJ’s). The crossfader is buttery smooth, and can be easily replaced if a different feel is needed. The unit also has a nice weight to it which puts me at ease knowing that there is a lot going on [...] Read more

Yamaha Custom 82z Soprano
Posted on August 22, 2011 by Chris Fountian
The Custom Z series from Yamaha has been widely popular since its inception and they have recently added to their sax shed with the introduction of the Custom 82Z Soprano. Released in January, 2011, the newest model to join the Custom Z series from Yamaha won ‘Best in Show’ at the 2011 NAMM show in Anaheim, California.
Based on the classic ’62 models in scale and design it also includes modern day innovations such as special brass alloy body for a lighter feel, a resonance enhancing rib plate, and a new lower vent tubing design to reduce noise on lower key [...] Read more

The Latest & Greatest from Evidence Audio
Posted on August 18, 2011 by Ryan Casselman
When guitarists are talking about tone, you’ll hear them talk about tonewoods, or amplifiers, or tubes, or pickups. All too often, however, they overlook the link between our guitars and our amps: the humble cable. You’ve spent a lot of time and money selecting your guitar and amplifier, and putting a 5 dollar cable between them doesn’t make much sense. A good cable will help your guitar rig sound like, well, your guitar rig.
Arguably one of the best examples of this is the line of cables from Evidence Audio. Discerning artists like David Gilmour, Pete Thorn, Alain Caron, and Scott [...] Read more

The new Roland AX09 Lucina Synth
Posted on August 8, 2011 by John Ebata
I was considering a 49 note controller to take on the short USA gig weekends to play sounds from my Mac laptop but good ones were almost the price of the Roland Lucina which has sounds onboard as backup and can be a keytar. I had used the Roland AX-Synth keytar for a couple of live shows and it was great but often stage size is small and the ‘neck’ gets bumped. So this 49 key Lucina that can sit nicely as a second keyboard or be a keytar at the funk gigs became my choice. Roland programmers have done [...] Read more

Latest Guthrie Guitar!
Posted on August 8, 2011 by Cosmo Music
It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Suhr guitars here at Cosmo, and the latest Guthrie Govan signature model is a great example of why.
Unlike the previous GG signature guitars, which have mahogany bodies and necks, this time it’s a basswood body, maple top (frequently referred to as John Suhr’s “Holy Grail” of tone), and a roasted maple neck. The roasting feature is a process where the maple is baked in a high-tech oxygen-free oven at 250 degrees Fahrenheit to remove moisture and other "impurities" in the wood. This results in an exceptionally stable neck that is perfect for [...] Read more

The Roland Jupiter 80 is Here!!!
Posted on August 4, 2011 by Fred Nicholson
We just received the new and very cool Roland Jupiter 80 76 key performance synth!
I am VERY impressed with the sounds and the way Roland is using what they call ’Supernatural’ technology. This technology allows the Jupiter sounds to ‘BEHAVE’ like the original sound it is reproducing. So what this means is the instrument sound not only sounds like the original but acts like it in terms of articulations so for example if you play a violin staccato, it sounds staccato, play smoothly it sounds legato all in real time and there is no switching like a lot of software [...] Read more

My Top 5 Drum DVD's
Posted on August 4, 2011 by Kyron Newbury
Jeff Porcaro
This unquestionably classic DVD showcases one of the greatest drummers to pick up the sticks. The DVD shows Jeff at the top of his game, teaching every drummer (no matter how good you are!) how to play. Besides all of the different grooves he demonstrates, this DVD is worth getting simply because he exhibits his flawless technique and mind blowing groove when he teaches the drumming classic Rosanna shuffle.
Todd Sucherman: Methods and Mechanics
Todd really shows his stuff on his instructional DVD, everything from bop to rock. He shows you why practicing rudiments pays off, why listening to the rest [...] Read more

The new Roland Jupiter 80
Posted on August 3, 2011 by John Ebata
Coming off a weekend of jazz festival live shows after a week in the studio and having owned an original Jupiter 8 with the DCB/OCB MIDI interface, I was curious to check out the newly arrived Jupiter 80 performance synth. One of the huge differences between the top line pro versions of synths across all brands and their ‘packed-with-features’ lower cost models is the feel of the key bed. The Jupiter 80 gives you that solid pro feel and 76 notes rather than the 61 offered by the original JP8. This is an amazing synth meant to be played, great [...] Read more
