  • Hip-Hop Production Setup

Posted on May 24, 2011 by James Peck

James here with a few tips on getting set up to make hip-hop beats. This will go over the basic components that you would be looking at getting.
    1. Computer
The better it is, the more you can do! Mac is highly recommended for music production but some software only works on PC (Fl Studio)
    2. Interface
This will be the main hub for all incoming and outgoing audio for your computer.
    3. Studio Monitors
Proper speakers will provide you with an accurate picture of your music. These speakers are full-range and typically self-powered.
    4. Keyboard/MIDI Controllers
MIDI Controllers come in all different shapes [...]  Read more

  • The "Classic" Shure SM57

Posted on May 24, 2011 by Mark Jossul

I have been asked in the past if I was stuck on a deserted island which microphone I would want with me. Without any hesitation I always reply the SM57! My reason for this is quite simple. For recording rock, punk and heavy metal there no instrument that you can put the SM57 on that won’t sound good in the final mix. Having spent many years recording these different genres of music, the 57 has become the sound that is heard on drums, guitar amps, bass cabinets and yes even vocals on thousands of records recorded and listened top around [...]  Read more

  • Guitar Manuscript Paper

Posted on May 24, 2011 by Elliott Chung

There are a lot of different elements that one must take into consideration when choosing the right type of guitar manuscript paper. Do you want chord boxes? Tabulature? Here at Corner Books our guitar manuscript comes in all shapes and sizes. There’s our tried and true Cosmo guitar dictation book, which is ideal for beginning guitar students. We also have a tabulature-only pad that is hole-punched, making it easy to store your music in a [...]  Read more

  • AAS Modelling Suite

Posted on May 17, 2011 by Cosmo Music

After spending some time producing music I've come to really enjoy the classic analog sounds of the 80's. Those old school, vintage, swelling synth lines and floppy bass sounds are just so rich in detail compared to the more modern distortion synth sounds of today. I had planned to save up and purchase a vintage synth like the Yamaha DX-7 or the Roland D-50 but instead was given the chance to try out some Analog VSTs from the company Applied Acoustics Systems, Ultra Analog and Tassman.
Ultra Analog is more of your classic, straight-up analog synth, the interface containing 2 [...]  Read more

  • Jimmy DeGrasso at Cosmo Music

Event took place on June 14, 2011 by Cosmo Music

Landing a gig with Ozzy Osbourne on the Ultimate Sin album was the first in a long list of dream jobs. After completing the album with Ozzy, Jimmy DeGrasso moved on to Y&T, then to Suicidal Tendencies and then Alice Cooper.

A sensational session drummer and an amazing touring artist, Jimmy was also a driving factor with Megadeth from 1998 to 2002. He has since been touring the world imparting his wisdom on fellow drummers and playing with some of his old bandmates.

We were ecstatic to host Jimmy here at Cosmo Music!
