Spring is in the air, and that means that it’s time to pick up your horn, and try something new! For those of you out there who are looking to get back into playing an instrument, the new series I Used to Play may just be the kick start you need! Available from Carl Fischer Music, the series is an innovative new method developed specifically for adults looking to reacquaint themselves with music, brush up on their skills, and perhaps learn a new thing or two along the way. Available for brass, woodwind, and string instruments, each book contains technical exercises, as well as a vast repertoire encompassing many different musical styles. A basic review of theoretical concepts and notation, and a fingering chart are also provided to help accelerate the learning process.
Additionally, you will find that the publisher has enclosed a CD containing background rhythm-section accompaniment, printable PDF files of piano accompaniments, and audio tracks of complete performances. Keep in mind that this is not recommended as a beginners method; (though here at Cosmo, we do have plenty available for beginners of all ages!) rather, it is meant to rekindle the joy of music making. All in all, this is a great resource if you’re looking to get started playing again!
See you soon!
