Two words…..Tommy “Freaking” Aldridge! Ok, well technically 3 words, but you get the point.
For those not in the know, Mr. Aldridge is considered one of “THE” drummers for hard rock and metal. Just look at his credentials: Black Oak Arkansas, Pat Travers, Gary Moore, and everybody’s favorite royal, “The Prince of Darkness” himself, Ozzy Osbourne. Tommy was the drummer on the phenomenal Diary of a Madman tour, and describes working with Randy Rhoads as the "highlight of my career." He stayed on with Ozzy's band and they put out Bark at the Moon. Always seeking [...] Read more

What's the Difference Between Levels of Horns?
Posted on April 26, 2011 by Lesley Dawe
A frequently asked question I often get while working here in the band department is “What is the difference between an instrument that is a ‘Student Model’ and one that is a ‘Professional Model’?” To answer simply, the main difference between these models can be attributed to two things:
1) The materials used to construct the instrument.
2) The quality of sound production the instrument gives.
Student models are constructed to be durable, reliable, and to allow for optimum sound production almost immediately. They are produced primarily with the needs of beginning students in mind, and are designed for ease of use. On [...] Read more

Yamaha DSR Series Speakers
Posted on April 21, 2011 by Mark Jossul
Welcome to The Extreme!!
Yamaha Pro Audio has introduced its new series of powered speakers, the DSR. They have pushed the output levels to some of the highest available, yet have kept the boxes light weight and compact. Not only does the sound stay amazingly clean at high levels, it allows you to hear some of the sounds you would be missing in other speakers. Not only do Yamaha’s powered tops go from at least 55Hz - 20kHz, but when paired with their 18” active sub subwoofer is when the magic really happens. All of the DSR speakers offer 1300w of [...] Read more

Fred's Take on the Lexicon Ionix Series
Posted on April 19, 2011 by Fred Nicholson
I have started to use the Lexicon Ionix series of computer audio /midi interfaces - so far the whole line has been VERY good! Our customers have been enjoying the USB line including the U22- 2x2; the U42S, 4 in 2 out; and the U82S, 8 in 2 out.
Lexicon also makes the FW810S which is a firewire audio interface with DBX mic pre’s and channel strip processing that uses an on-board dsp. This dsp gives you reverb and compression on the interface which saves you from using the power on your computer! This frees up the computer [...] Read more

Spring Cleaning includes your drums!
Posted on April 6, 2011 by Cosmo Music
Welcome to Spring. A time of rejuvenation and that time honoured tradition of Spring-cleaning. You know you’ve been putting off those chores around the house to clean up that mess in the garage or finding out what that smell is. Once you’ve figured out where the smell is coming from, I suggest that now is the time to do another piece of maintenance around the house: your drums.
So what does this entail? I like to start from the ground up. Begin with your pedals (hi-hat and bass drum). It’s not too much to [...] Read more
