A parent’s frustration story on finding a good piano teacher and having the right instrument…
“I enrolled my 5 year old with a young, local neighbourhood teacher for piano lessons. Not knowing what my daughter needed to practice, this teacher said just get a small Casio or Yamaha keyboard. After 10 months and over $1000 of lessons, my daughter was still just playing with the buttons and quirky sounds on the keyboard and not seeming to play the music from the books that the teacher sold me. In asking around, a friend said that I should have a real piano not a toy to practice on and their children’s teacher had told her that unfortunately there are many unqualified teachers who only want the parents money for the lessons and do not really care about the education of the kids.
I switched pianos teachers to a large reputable school who only taught on real pianos. Our family bought a new upright and my daughter loves to play her new shiny black piano for all her friends.
We parents want the best education for our kids but too many of us squash the enthusiasm to learn music before the kids even get going, just to save money and it ends up costing us much more. As you see I learned the hard way with both lost time and money.”
