News from the Bass World...

Posted on February 1, 2011 by Rail Koonin

The start of the new year is always an exciting time in the guitar and bass world as we begin to see all of the new products introduced for the year from the Winter NAMM show in Anaheim California. There was no shortage of cool new products at this years show, here is a heads up on some of the new bass gear that will be available at the store shortly as well as a few other things to look out for.

Aguilar Amplification has joined the world of light weight modular bass gear with their new line of SL series cabinets and the extremely small yet powerful Tonehammer 500 head. Starting off the line up, we’ve seen the SL112 250watt 25lb 1x12 cabinet and the SL410 which boasts a massive 1200 watts of power at only 69lbs! The Tonehammer 500 head is one of the smallest and lightest on the market, putting out 500 watts of power at 4ohms and weighing in at only 4lbs. We anticipate arrival of the new Aguilar gear at the store in mid to late March ’11.

Always on the cutting edge of bass amplification, Markbass introduced a slew of new products at this years NAMM show. Some new gear to look out for will include:

**The TTE 500 “modern vintage” head. Practically everything on this amp is tube driven, and includes a 500 watt @ 4ohm analog power amp weighing in at only 11.24lbs!

**The new Alain Caron signature Ground Stereo Preamp, a programmable floor based preamp which offers true stereo operation.

**The Bas121 Lite – Alain Caron signature powered speaker.

**The MB1000 - stereo rackmountable poweramp which offers 350 watts per channel at 8ohms, 500 watts per channel at 4 ohms, or 1000 watts at 4ohms in bridged mono mode.

**They have also introduced some new bass effect pedals for 2011 with the MB Octaver bass octave divider, and Bass tube marker tube bass distortion.

A couple of other things to look out for from Markbass will be a newly designed website, and coming soon to Cosmo Music will be the Markbass Mo Mark testing tower. For those who are not familiar with the Mo Mark system, it consists of four separate components. Starting with the amplifier frame itself, choose a 250, 500, 600, or 800 watt power amp section. The preamp section, EQ section, and output sections consist of three separate modules which are all interchangeable allowing you to adjust your setup for each gig. Having the Mo Mark testing tower at the store will enable bassists to try out every combination of Mo Mark amplifier available!

We have just received a shipment of SWR Go Lite series bass heads and cabs including the Headlite small footprint 400 watt bass amp head, and Amplite 400 watt power amp. These can be linked together to create a colossal amount of power through several cabinets. Along with these amps, we’ve seen the arrival of the Go Lite 2x10, 1x15 and 1x12 cabs as well as the new Marcus Miller super light 4x10 cab (at 55lbs possibly the lightest 4x10 on the market today). The Marcus Miller M2 signature preamp, and 750X dedicated poweramp round out the Go Lite line up. Drop by the store and check them out!

Lastly, we’ve received our first shipment of Fender American Special Precision and Jazz basses. The quality and workmanship on these basses is phenomenal, and so is the price point!!

New products are arriving daily and weekly, drop by or give us a call to find out about the latest, greatest, and most innovative products on the market today!
