  • My Trip to NAMM 2011 - Drums Part 1

Posted on January 27, 2011 by Cosmo Music

When you think Anaheim, California, you think of the land that Disney built and adults dressed as giant mice. Well, you wouldn’t be wrong, however, from January 13-16, the Anaheim convention center plays host to another breed of animal…the musician. It is during these four days that the NAMM show takes place. For those not in the know, NAMM stands for the National Association of Music Merchants. The long and short of it is that EVERY instrument maker comes out to exhibit their latest wares…and guess who has the painful task of playing, I mean “researching” [...]  Read more

Owned by one of the world’s largest corporations Hyundai Development Corp., Young Chang had a large display of the Young Chang, Weber and Albert Weber acoustic pianos, the new Kurzweil digital pianos and the new Albert Weber woodwinds and saxes. • My Trip to NAMM 2011

Posted on January 24, 2011 by Ryan Casselman

This was my first trip to NAMM and I don’t know where to begin! It was an amazing experience, and the sheer size and spectacle of the event was staggering. I saw so much new product, met with so many manufacturers, and literally ran into so many of my personal heroes. There were new items that we’ve already begun to see, like Fender’s new Mustang III, IV, and V amplifiers, and items like Yamaha’s A-Series acoustic guitars that we won’t be seeing until later in the year. There are also going to be some brand new products for us that [...]  Read more

  • Matt's Pick of the Week: Fender Mustang III Amps

Posted on January 24, 2011 by Matt Metcalf

This is one of the best modeling combo amps I have ever tried. With 100 built in presets, it makes it easy to find the right sound for the right song. It's perfect for practising at home or out playing with people. This amp has 100 watts pushing through a 12 inch speaker, so it's small but powerful. Check out the Fender Mustang III today at Cosmo music, and leave with a great new amplifier!

  • Teacher Lesson Enhancements

Posted on January 19, 2011 by Lesley Dawe

Teachers! Are you looking to add something to enhance your lessons, and create excitement among students in your music classroom? If so, then you may want to consider introducing the terrific new series Freddie the Frog written by Sharon Burch, and illustrated by Tiffany Harris.
Suitable for children from preschool through to early elementary, the series does an excellent job at creatively combining musical instruction and engaging students. Students will love following Freddie’s adventures as he travels with his friend Eli, discovering numerous musical concepts along the way.
By introducing the musical alphabet through a story in the first two books The [...]  Read more

Easy Renaissance Pieces for Classical Guitar and Easy Baroque Pieces for Classical Guitar are two books that have recently arrived and are worth visiting us to check out. Compiled and edited by Jerry Willard, an accomplished player and arranger, both books include tablature and a CD and have been designed with the beginning to intermediate guitarist in mind. Both also contain a helpful introduction to the unique rhythm and ornamentation of their respective periods, making them valuable learning tools. • The Method in Black has Done it Again!

Posted on January 14, 2011 by Doug Armstrong

Hal Leonard has just introduced the newest addition to its impressive fleet of Guitar Methods with the unmistakable black cover – Guitar Chord, Scale and Arpeggio Finder (00697410). I can’t count how many time I’ve been asked for a good guitar scale book or a good guitar chord book. Well, now there’s a great 2-in-1 option and because many guitarists want to learn how play over chords and eventually learn to improvise their solos, Hal Leonard has included arpeggios too. Probably most useful are the 3 different voicings the publisher has provided for each chord type. Containing over 1,100 chords [...]  Read more
