  • Ableton Live

Posted on March 26, 2010 by Cosmo Music

So I’ve had Ableton Suite 8 for about 2 months now and decided that’s enough time to be able to discuss what I like about it so far. First off, the warping engine in Live is a treat, being able to grab a audio file or song and have Live not only load the track in real time but also figure out the files tempo then warp it to the sessions master tempo is ridiculous; it’s clear they designed the program itself to be able to adapt well in a live setting (hence the name).
From there I also looked [...]  Read more

  • Maxim's Pick of the Week: Evidence Lyric LG Cable

Posted on March 22, 2010 by Maxim Shelkov

If you want to squeeze every last bit of tone out of your amp, if you want those shimmering highs with a nice tight low end - you need to use good quality cable.
It's an easy and simple solution to get the most out of your amp. My cable of choice is the Evidence Lyric LG. Most people say that a blanket has been lifted off their amps after using this cable because it provides more body, more bottom end and more highs to your sound. It pretty much squeezes every bit of tone out of your amp and guitar [...]  Read more

  • Injury Prevention is Very Important for Classical Guitar Players

Posted on March 19, 2010 by Elliott Chung

We spend many hours sitting in a fixed position potentially straining different areas of our body. It is therefore important that we educate ourselves about how our bodies operate while also developing an effective stretching and exercise regimen to keep unnecessary pain at bay.
Playing(less) Hurt by Janet Horvath is an excellent resource for understanding the mechanics of how injuries develop and for learning about specific exercises that you can do to stay in shape. The book, acclaimed by musicians, educators and doctors alike, contains insightful scientific analyses of musically-related injuries, clear pictures and diagrams demonstrating exercises, and helpful lists such [...]  Read more

  • The Piano Technician's Viewpoint...

Posted on March 18, 2010 by John Ebata

We hear customers say, "I have never heard of Bechstein."
I met Karl Schultze, CEO of C.Bechstein Europe, last week in New York. Karl is the only owner of a piano company who is a piano master technician, not a computer geek, accountant or road maker. He is the only piano company owner who could actually build a piano from the ground up with parts. So when we talked pianos, he knew them intimately.
He made complete sense when he said the greatest classical piano music was all written in Europe by amazing composers such as Debussy, Listz, Brahms and Wagner. All [...]  Read more

  • Effects Pedal Accessories: True Innovations!

Posted on March 15, 2010 by Cosmo Music

Although it’s a commonly used cliché, big things come in small packages. This statement couldn’t be more accurate in referring to StageTrix pedal board accessories. The good people at StageTrix are the brilliant minds behind two pedal board solutions that guitarists and bassists commonly have issues with.
Velcro that either does not stay attached to the bottom of the pedal, or won’t stay attached to the pedal board itself. Lower and upper rows of pedals that sit at the same height, making it a difficult task to click the pedal on or off on the upper row without knocking your toe [...]  Read more

  • Spectrasonic's Omnisphere 1.2

Posted on March 15, 2010 by John Ebata

I downloaded the Spectrasonic's Omnisphere 1.2 update to my Macbook Pro. No glitches at all. Booted up Mainstage, opened the Omnisphere plug-in and there were all the patches. Even more than the last update, which had around 2000 free new ones, and they were really easy to find.
Omnisphere is the ultimate software synth for textural pads. One of the categories is Keyboards and I had never tried those patches because I didn't expect much. To my great surprise was a Wah Clav perfect for "Superstition" but even cooler was a Steam Clav that was very playable, like an original [...]  Read more

  • Something new...the Korg Wavedrum

Posted on March 15, 2010 by Cosmo Music

Hello fellow drummers and the drum-curious.
I’m happy to announce that we have the new Korg Wavedrum and I’ve been having a blast playing it.
I’ve long been intrigued by it but could never seem to find one of the original version that my drum hero Danny Carey plays…and I couldn’t afford what they were charging even for used ones online. I think they only made a few hundred of them at the time. However it’s back and better then ever.
What sets this instrument apart, and it really is an instrument and not a toy, is how dynamic and expressive it [...]  Read more
