OMEA – The Ontario Music Educators’ Association

The Ontario Music Educators’ Association (OMEA), a non-profit organization that represents music educators in Ontario. One of our objectives is to ‘provide leadership in establishing and maintaining high standards of school music throughout Ontario & Canada’. We participate in meetings with the Ministry of Education, the Ontario Teachers’ Federation Curriculum Forum, and the Ontario College of Teachers.

Friends of Music Therapy in Support of the SickKids Foundation

The Friends of Music Therapy Endowment Fund was established at SickKids Foundation to provide permanent support to the Music Therapy Program at The Hospital for Sick Children. This stable funding source will ensure this delivery of care to the palliative and cancer programs at SickKids, and enable the expansion of music therapy services to other areas such as organ transplantation, neonatal intensive care, adolescent medicine and more. It will also fund the purchase of needed musical instruments and equipment as well as support its internship program, one of the few in Canada that provides specialized paediatric training to a new generation of music therapists. Interns will also assist in the development of qualitative research that will help to promote internationally the inherent value of music therapy in patient care. Cosmo Music’s employees have chosen Sick Kids Foundation as their charity of choice. Any and all funds raised through staff events and/or customer promotions are contributed to this amazing program.

GAMA - The Guitar and Accessories Marketing Association

In 1995, GAMA, NAMM and MENC launched a program to train music teachers to start guitar programs in middle and high schools. It is estimated that over the years the program has trained 650 teachers, and has introduced the guitar to 208,650 students, 38,850 of which have purchased their own guitar. Music Alive

Music Alive is now twelve years old as a region wide music festival that involves Public, Catholic, Private Schools and community musicians. It is unique in that it is a non-competitive, educational festival that offers participants the opportunity to receive a rating based on international standards. Music Alive spans over eight weeks after the March Break each year and it involves well over 14,000 musicians. It is financially supported by the private sector, school boards and participants. Music Alive is administered by a committee of volunteers drawn from industry, the community and our schools. NAPBIRT – National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians

The National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians, Inc. (NAPBIRT) was founded in 1976 by a small group of technicians who realized the need for communication and the free exchange of information within their trade. NAPBIRT was created from these ideals and we proudly celebrate over 30 years of sharing and growing together. The primary goal of continuing education is attained through Regional Clinics, NAPBIRT University Courses and annual International Conferences all of which, in combination, provide over 300 hours throughout the year of face to face instruction via lectures, demonstrations and hands-on sessions. In addition, NAPBIRT offers its members a bi-monthly trade journal known as TechniCom, a comprehensive website and a member network of over 1300 technicians with whom to exchange tradecraft.
