The Coalition for Music Education in Canada
We envision Canada as a country where the lives of all children are enriched by quality school music programs, and where their active participation in music is valued and supported in our communities. Our mission is to raise the awareness and understanding of the role that music education plays in Canadian culture, and to promote the benefits that music education brings to young people. Cosmo Music is a proud “Gold” partner with the Coalition for Music Education in Canada.
MIAC – Music Industries Association of Canada
Founded in 1972, The Music Industries Association of Canada (MIAC) is a national, not-for-profit trade association that represents retailers, manufacturers and distributors of music products. The association also represents those providing technologies and services to the event, entertainment, and communication industries across Canada, and the Globe. Cosmo has always been a proud member of MIAC. Cosmo Music was honoured to receive the first ever MIAC Excellence Award for Retailer of the Year in 2010.
OMEA – The Ontario Music Educators’ Association
The Ontario Music Educators’ Association (OMEA), a non-profit organization that represents music educators in Ontario. One of our objectives is to ‘provide leadership in establishing and maintaining high standards of school music throughout Ontario & Canada’. We participate in meetings with the Ministry of Education, the Ontario Teachers’ Federation Curriculum Forum, and the Ontario College of Teachers.
Friends of Music Therapy in Support of the SickKids Foundation
The Friends of Music Therapy Endowment Fund was established at SickKids Foundation to provide permanent support to the Music Therapy Program at The Hospital for Sick Children. This stable funding source will ensure this delivery of care to the palliative and cancer programs at SickKids, and enable the expansion of music therapy services to other areas such as organ transplantation, neonatal intensive care, adolescent medicine and more. It will also fund the purchase of needed musical instruments and equipment as well as support its internship program, one of the few in Canada that provides specialized paediatric training to a new generation of music therapists. Interns will also assist in the development of qualitative research that will help to promote internationally the inherent value of music therapy in patient care. Cosmo Music’s employees have chosen Sick Kids Foundation as their charity of choice. Any and all funds raised through staff events and/or customer promotions are contributed to this amazing program.
NAMM - National Association of Music Merchants
NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), commonly called NAMM in reference to the organization's popular NAMM trade shows, is the not-for-profit association that promotes the pleasures and benefits of making music and strengthens the $17 billion global music products industry. NAMM serves as a hub for people wanting to seek out the newest innovations in musical products, recording technology, sound and lighting. NAMM's activities and programs are designed to promote music making to people of all ages. Cosmo Music is an active member of NAMM and sends a team of buyers and team leaders to trade shows on a yearly basis. Attending NAMM helps Cosmo Music stay on top of active trends and the newest and hottest items on the market in order to provide the latest and greatest to our customers.
Advancing active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs from the international music products industry. Cosmo Music’s NAMM membership helps contribute to NAMM Foundation research. This important research has provided significant proof towards the importance of music in developing minds.
GAMA - The Guitar and Accessories Marketing Association
In 1995, GAMA, NAMM and MENC launched a program to train music teachers to start guitar programs in middle and high schools. It is estimated that over the years the program has trained 650 teachers, and has introduced the guitar to 208,650 students, 38,850 of which have purchased their own guitar. Cosmo Music has been an active host and contributor to Canadian GAMA funded Guitar Teacher Workshops in our Cosmopolitan Music Hall.
NAfME (MENC) – National Association for Music Education
NAfME, among the world's largest arts education organizations, marked its centennial in 2007 as the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. Through membership of more than 75,000 active, retired, and preservice music teachers, and with 60,000 honor students and supporters, NAfME serves millions of students nationwide through activities at all teaching levels, from preschool to graduate school.
SupportMusic.com is a public service initiative that intends to critically impact resolve and support for music education in local communities around the United States. SupportMusic.com is an advocacy effort that unites various national and regional organizations with parents and community leaders seeking to improve access and opportunity in music and arts learning. NASMD – National Association of School Music Dealers
NASMD is a strongly united Association of retailers, manufacturers, and suppliers, all dedicated to serving the school music market. While our business strategies change with the times, our focus remains the same…helping school music students make music!
RPMDA – Retail Print Music Dealers Association
The Retail Print Music Dealers Association is a professional trade organization founded over twenty years ago to address the special needs and interests of the dynamic print music industry. RPMDA is an exciting forum for exchanging ideas and building bridges within the print music industry. It provides the opportunity for dealers and publishers to meet in a non-commercial setting to discuss the present and plan for the future. RPMDA is the unified voice of the print music industry. Our members are active in local, state and national organizations, constantly taking the market’s pulse. Our collective voice is heard on such issues as copyright protection, barcoding, the Internet and arts advocacy.
OBA – Ontario Band Association
The Ontario Band Association (OBA) is dedicated to serving music directors and students effectively and to promoting and fostering excellence in music education in Ontario through bands. Cosmo Music is proud to support the OBA through its “Conducting Excellence” awards.
Music Alive is now twelve years old as a region wide music festival that involves Public, Catholic, Private Schools and community musicians. It is unique in that it is a non-competitive, educational festival that offers participants the opportunity to receive a rating based on international standards. Music Alive spans over eight weeks after the March Break each year and it involves well over 14,000 musicians. It is financially supported by the private sector, school boards and participants. Music Alive is administered by a committee of volunteers drawn from industry, the community and our schools. Cosmo Music is a proud sponsor or Music Alive and its ongoing efforts to promote music through education within York Region.
PIMTA – Peel Intermediate Music Teachers Association
PIMTA, an organization of Peel intermediate music teachers, is dedicated to providing and supporting quality music programs and activities that nurture and enhance music growth for both students and teachers. Cosmo Music is proud to support PIMTA in their pursuit of excellence in music education through their Music Festivals.
NAPBIRT – National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians
The National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians, Inc. (NAPBIRT) was founded in 1976 by a small group of technicians who realized the need for communication and the free exchange of information within their trade. NAPBIRT was created from these ideals and we proudly celebrate over 30 years of sharing and growing together. The primary goal of continuing education is attained through Regional Clinics, NAPBIRT University Courses and annual International Conferences all of which, in combination, provide over 300 hours throughout the year of face to face instruction via lectures, demonstrations and hands-on sessions. In addition, NAPBIRT offers its members a bi-monthly trade journal known as TechniCom, a comprehensive website and a member network of over 1300 technicians with whom to exchange tradecraft. Canadian Band Association
The Canadian Band Association is a national organization representing and supporting school, university, military and community bands, band directors, students, parents, administrators, the music industry, composers, arrangers and all those interested in bands and band music across Canada.
CMIEC – Canadian Music Industry Education Committee
The Canadian Music Industry Education Committee (CMIEC) is a not-for-profit board of directors consisting of music business and music education professionals whose role is to share our business experience and education in order to promote quality music programs in Canadian schools. We are affiliates of the Ontario Music Educators Association (OMEA), the Canadian Music Educators Association (CMEA) and the Coalition for Music Education in Canada (CMEC). Our primary role is to provide support for the production and execution of Music Educators Conferences and funding for affiliates for research and other projects that further the cause of music education in Canadian Schools.
Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce
The RHCOC is the "voice of business" in the Richmond Hill business community. Cosmo Music is a proud member of the chamber and won a prestigious Business Achievement Award in 2006.
RHCPA - Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts
Located in the heart of the historic downtown, the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts (RHCPA) is a 4,000 square metre, 631 seat, state of the art cultural facility that offers a full season of professional entertainment celebrating the many cultures of York Region. The Centre is also home to Richmond Hill’s diverse arts community, creating a major venue in the downtown core to bring Canadian and International performers to the area. Cosmo Music is a proud Series Sponsor and Official Supplier of Musical Instruments and Audio Equipment for the RHCPA.
York Region Police Youth Band
The York Regional Police Youth Band was formed in October 2009 and is a complement of seventeen highly talented students from throughout the Region. Cosmo Music is proud to be a Founding Partner of the York Region Police Youth Band and is pleased to provide a home for their ongoing rehearsals.
Town of Richmond Hill
The Town of Richmond Hill and the community in which Cosmo Music grew up is very much an important part of our history. Cosmo Music is proud to sponsor countless Town of Richmond Hill events through the use of audio visual equipment in an effort to help enrich the community spirit through music.
